My Top 5 Books on Making Money Online

18

Marketing BooksThere are literally thousands upon thousands of books on making money online out there that can be very useful aids for you and your online adventure. Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes, and in this business it’s just the same.  I have many books on making money online, some of which I read the first few chapters and then give up, others find their place in the bathroom, and then there are some that I keep going back to time and time again.

It’s these books on making money online that I would like to share with you – I personally use every one of these as a reference tool.  There is a book to get me out of a technical situation, a step-by-step guide book, a few reference books and a book to give some inspiration and to remember “not to give up, this is the easy option”

These are just my own personal thoughts and views. I will list them in no particular order as like I mentioned they all serve their purpose to me. Some of you may question these are not books on making money online, well maybe not but I feel they all contribute or at least have in my online venture. I have not included any eBay, trading or gambling books, these are other ways of making money online – I have stuck to the Internet Marketing niche.

So, my Top 5 Books on Making Money Online:

Internet Marketing  : The Full Story – By Elton Boocock

I only just recently purchased this, well I would say about 6 months ago but the reason I regard it to have such high preference on my league table of worthwhile books is Elton’s no-nonsense approach. Straight from the off he quotes about the many “gurus” out there teaching unproven concepts and theories to others with the sole aim of making mega profits for themselves. This rarely works as we know, and quite often when the blind lead the blind both parties fail – epic fail. What Elton does is open your eyes to the real world of online marketing, often the uncensored truth is what we need – and he delivers.  It is broken down into the categories you would expect from an Internet Marketing book he gives a quick checklist at the end of each section with a notes page, if you have nothing to offer on this note page then you are told to re-read the chapter again! All in all there are some very rewarding chapters and it’s a book that I keep going back to. More details here….

Get to #1 on Google in Easy Steps – By Ben Norman

This was a very early purchase for me, but I have to say I don’t really like the title – because it just can’t be true every time. The way this SEO book is laid out even someone with no SEO experience at all would be able to dramatically increase their website’s ranking. When I first launched one of my Solar Energy websites I was nowhere to be seen as far as search engine ranking went – certainly not on page one. After following this book from cover to cover I can now say that for some (not all) of my keywords I am on page one, so not bad. The author Ben Norman is a leading search engine optimization consultant and runs Impact Media a multi award winning marketing company. The great thing about this book is it’s fully illustrated, so they don’t just tell you how to do it they show you how. He explains everything from the basics right up to full optimization. Even with Google’s latest update the principles in this book remain very relevant. There are SEO companies charging $100’s each month, for a one off payment of $14.99 why not have a crack yourself! Sams Teach Yourself WordPress in 10 Minutes – By Chuck Tomasi & Kreg Steppe

Bit of a no brainer for me really, you see when I done my Certified Internet Webmasters course many many years ago it was all HTML, literally all HTML. Just getting a simple page with a contact form on it took forever and lots of writing code. After getting back into what I loved some eight years later things have changed a bit! I had never used WordPress before until this blog, so I needed some help. This book is another great reference book, broken down into manageable 10 minute lessons. You see, with me I actually like having a book sometimes with actual paper and a cover, especially if I am using it alongside my web-based work. I know I could probably find what I need to know in various forums etc but a simple guide book with clear instruction – you can’t beat that. More details here….

Make a Fortune Promoting Other People’s Stuff Online – By Rosalind Gardner

I love this. This was one of the first books I purchased in this field – way back in 2007. But I still believe that most of the methods and techniques in this book are still very active today. In fact, if you know nothing about affiliate marketing then this book is a great starting block. Super Affiliate Rosalind Gardner runs NetProfitsToday.com which is a monumental site. Check it out. There is a whole host of affiliate networks in here that I never knew existed – again another one of my favourite resource books. This is your hands-on guide to starting your own profitable affiliate marketing business quickly. The book is packed with loads of great tips like how to identify products and programs that are profitable – and the ones to avoid, (I wish I had this book when I first started out!) There are also time and money-saving techniques – including 12 ways to drive traffic to your website at no cost! Really useful book – in fact I still take it with me on trains today. Wake up and Change Your Life – By Duncan Bannatyne

Last but certainly not least is this fantastic book from the famous Dragon – Duncan Bannatyne. I love reading other people’s success stories, some people don’t – jealously gets the better of them I guess. Often when you read these stories they are from very humble backgrounds, this is no different. Duncan’s business career started with a £450 ice cream van business, he is now worth in excess of £310 million. Through-out the book he guides you through many of the obstacles that get in most people’s way. He explains how to remove the barriers, put pitches together, knowing when to sell. But for me the best part of the book is the superb case studies throughout, there are some absolute gems in there (including his own) from successful entrepreneurs all over the world – some you will know some you most definitely won’t. Reading their stories is a real inspiration, if you think you can’t do it, or don’t have the time, or don’t have the money then read these and you may soon be questioning those negative thoughts and maybe, just maybe you may realise it’s time to wake up and change your life for good. More details here….

  1. Nice resources, John. I particularly liked that you included the Bannatyne book, which is now on my list of books to read (ever growing list). I think what some people miss when they want to learn about doing business online is the “business” element. If you don’t understand business you’re already at a disadvantage. That’s not to say you won’t do well, just that you could do better with a business brain.

    • Cheers Janie,

Yeah the Bannatyne book is great, and being from your neck of the woods too i think you will appreciate it. I was fortunate (well, maybe not!) to have to study business as part of a course I done, this has helped a bit. Although, I think you can always learn…… especially in this business.

      Thanks for dropping by.

    • Hi Jon,

Thanks for dropping by the blog. Glad you like the book suggestions……

Just popped over to your site – you got a good thing going on there!

      All the best,
      John

    • Hi Toshiba,

Great to see you on the blog! Thanks for your comment – its important to get the required help when you need it. I have either got my head in a book or I am on here!

In my opinion we can never stop learning – and, yes you are correct we have to have the right mindset.

Just been over to your site – looks awesome, I will be in touch.

      Regards,
      John

  2. The only one that I have read on this list is Duncan Bannatyne’s ‘Wake Up & Change Your Life’, which as you say, is a great book! I’m not a huge fan of autobiographies (which this kind of is), especially celebrity autobiographies, but Duncan’s is great. Really inspiring to learn how someone becomes SO successful.

I’ll have to check out some of the other books mentioned here. Great post John!
