3 WordPress Plugins To Help You Gain Subscribers

gain subscribers

If you are a WordPress user, you will be happy to know there are various plugins out there that can help you gain subscribers. I am going to talk through three that I rate highly and indeed still use on this very blog.

Gaining subscribers is the life-blood of every blog. You want repeat visitors, and the best type is your own subscriber base.

So, without further ado – here are three WordPress plugins that will help you attract more subscribers:

OptinSkin

OptinSkin

What are its main features?

The concept of OptinSkin is to provide great-looking and powerful opt in boxes for your WordPress blog. There is a whole host of features with this plugin. I am a fan of this and you will notice that I also use it here on the blog.

How will it help me gain subscribers?

Most of the time readers feel engaged with your blog after they have just read some of your content. With this plugin it allows you to put an opt-in box straight after the post. This will no doubt gain subscribers for your site. You also have the option to put opt-in forms and/or pop ups in other places on your site all at the click of a mouse, the back-end interface is really simple.  OptinSkin easily integrates with all the popular autoresponders such as Aweber, Mailchimp and GetResponse.

There is also a fantastic split-test function which allows you to run two opt-in forms that will change each time a visitor comes to the blog. This is great and allows me to test the opt-in forms and see which styles, buttons, colours etc convert the best. This provides great data and is really useful seeing which forms work best.

What are the disadvantages?

The only slight negative point is that there are only 20 pre-set designs. I say pre-set because if you are a dab hand at HTML/CSS then you can add your own. I still think 20 is plenty to get going with as I find I only really use 4 or 5 and modify them slightly to suit. You can add your own images such as your eBook cover to any so really it is not too bad at all. You could argue that the price is a little steep for single user license but then if you compare it to the cost of a 100 click solo ad for example, at least with OptinSkin the subscribers will keep on coming after 100 clicks. Certainly worth thinking about.

Subscribers Magnet

What are its main features?

Subscribers Magnet is another opt-in form plugin similar to the previous entry only this time it does not focus on the designs but more of ‘pre-empting’ your readers. This is extremely powerful, as it will auto-fill their details on the opt-in box for them.

How will it help me gain subscribers?

This plugin does claim to increase opt-in rates by 35% in some cases. It does this by using sort of stealth tactics. It will auto-fill opt-in forms, provide pop-ups, allow button form opt-ins at the bottom of posts. It will also allow you to add a footer bar ‘one-time -only’ opt-in form. Whilst I do not think the designs are as grand as the ones of OptinSkin there are still a whole host to choose from.

One of the real great benefits is comment form opt-ins. Nothing really new with this but a great way to gain additional subscribers none the less.

What are the disadvantages?

For me the disadvantages of this plugin are the designs. They do not look very up-to-date although some are better than others I must say.

Aweber Web Forms

aweber web forms

What are its main features?

This a neat little free plugin from Aweber that I have only just installed here on the blog, and it has helped with getting some new subscribers. I mentioned briefly above about adding an opt-in button after the comments section. Well this is exactly that.

How will it help me gain subscribers?

I am convinced that this will help any blog get additional  subscribers because of the veryopt in comment nature of it. It has worked on my blog. Often, if someone has made the effort to make a comment on your blog its usually because they are interested in what you have said, well now is the time to get them interested in signing up to your subscriber base. You can add a simple little check box with a line of text and once ticked this will help you gain subscribers to your list.

What are the disadvantages?

It will only work with Aweber – as it is made by them! Not a disadvantage if you use their service though – like me.

Closing Thoughts

The above three plugins will help you gain subscribers to your blog – that I have no doubt. I am sure there are many more out there that will do equal jobs but the ones I have covered above I personally use or have come very close too. In fact, I am sure that one day I will give Subscribers Magnet another close look at as the figures are too good to completely ignore, and its actually cheaper than OptinSkin.

One thing for sure, if you have an Aweber account then you would be silly not to install Aweber Web Forms plugin as its free and converts nicely.

If there are any opt-in plugins that you think deserve a mention, feel free to add them in the comments box below.

  1. Hi John,
This is really interesting reading. I am liking the Aweber. I assume I would get it from Aweber as a plugin to my WP site? I am going over there to have a peak at it.

Say John, I don’t see your linkedIN or google+ buttons. I would like to post your stuff to a couple of groups I’m in.

    • Hi Daisy,

Great to hear from you again. How are things going over at CFM?

Yes – the Aweber plugin you can download from the link that I have provided. Or, just search “Aweber Web Forms” within your WordPress plugin dashboard. This will no doubt bring it up and you can install it from there.

As far as my social media profiles – they are all in the header at the top of the page. Thank you for sharing content, it is very much appreciated.

      Warmest Regards,
      John

    • Hi Liza,

Yes its great – I am actually fairly new to it. A friend introduced me to it recently, although OptinSkin I have been a fan of for many months now.

      Thank you for dropping in.

    • Your welcome – it was from your site that I discovered it! So – thanks!

      Yes, Optinskin is awesome too…

Lol – yes, you may well have to drag yourself off the dancefloor for a weekend to catch up on the blog revamp!

I am kidding- DONT DO IT, I would love to go back to those days, just for one weekend….!

      Regards,
      John

  3. 3 great tools, I use Aweber service so I should really use the plugin as it makes sense, a free tool to add a subscription option at the bottom of posts… I am so embarrassed to say that until now I didn’t realise that it was the Aweber plugin that did it. 🙂

The Optin skin does look good though, Pat Flynn has it on his site and it sits nicely on sites I think. Thanks for the low down on these plugins.

    • Hi Si,

Yes, I saw that Pat Flynn uses OptinSkin – may as well copy the best hey?!

The little Aweber tool is nice – and for the record I only found out about it a few weeks ago myself! – Courtesy of a friend blog!

Thanks for popping over and adding a comment, appreciated.

  4. Great post John and 3 great plugins,

The Optin skin looks really good, When Glen from Viperchill released it I wondered whether I should get it. It sits nicely on sites I like the look of it, I think I might invest in this one.

Unfortunatly we do not use Aweber on our site we have confusionsoft otherwise I would use the Aweber plugin without a doubt. I love Aweber.

    • Hey Andi,

Thanks for coming over and making your comment.

Yes, I think OptinSkin is great, in fact actually I am thinking of doing more split-tests soon.

Shame about the Aweber – does your autoresponder not have their own plugins?

      Regards,
      John

  5. Nice useful post . I don’t think having only 20 Styles is a disadvantage . We can easily tweak the style with minimum info on CSS . The Opt-in box seems to be the catch .

    • Hi Susan,

I was being picky I guess! 20 styles is plenty and you make a great point about the editing potential that this powerful plugin has.

      Thanks for coming over.
      Regards,
      John
